Human growth hormone is basically a protein which contains 191 amino acids. It is produced and secreted throughout the human body by pituitary gland. Human growth hormone deficiency causes problems regarding growth as well as aging in human body. There are many human growth hormone therapies and products available in market to address this problem of human growth hormone deficiency. However it is not always beneficial to take human growth hormone externally.

Cell growth is not always a good thing. For example, cancer, that is uncontrolled cell growth. In cancer, the increased cells don't do the work which original cells do. Also, human growth hormone stimulates muscle growth which doesn't produce the same effect that improves strength. Several studies have been conducted to find out the relation between human growth hormone use and cancer.

The liver is stimulated to increase production of the natural Insulin-like Growth Factor-1 (IGF-1) by human growth hormone. However, there are scientific journals showing that elevated IGF-1 levels are strongly associated with major excess risks of colon, prostate, and breast cancers.

Human growth hormone nutritional supplements including oral sprays are also growing concerns. However when compared with inject able medication, human growth hormone absorption from the mouth and gut is unlikely to be significant. Even though nutritional human growth hormone supplements should be phased out until it can be shown that they do not elevate blood IGF-1 levels.

Many people have cautious approach towards replacement therapy because many doctors claim that human growth hormone will cause cancer. However from 1994 - 1996, doctors perform human growth hormone injections. In two year span they treated more than 800 patients with human growth hormone injections. There have not been any reports of cancer from any of the patients.

Different studies have different views on risk of cancer from human growth hormone supplementation. Some studies show no signs of danger using human growth hormone while other conflicting studies for growth hormone for its role in causing cancer and its effect on the cardiovascular system. However many studies are not even sure about the exact roles of how growth hormone interacts with IGF-1 or IGF-11 in forming cancer.

In 1985, FDA has recommended that human growth hormone medication should be used under the supervision of qualified endocrinologists for highly restricted medical disorders, such as dwarfism due to pituitary gland deficiency.
