For girls in the age group of 9-10 years, the ideal level is 39-186 ng/ml and for boys it is 26-98 ng/ml. In 11-13 age group, normal test result for girls is 66-215 ng/ml and for boys 44-207 ng/ml. An increase in level of human growth hormone indicates gigantism and acromegaly.

The body's ability to produce human growth hormone can be checked with growth hormone stimulation test also known as insulin tolerance or arginine test. For human growth hormone stimulation test a substance called human growth hormone releasing factor is used. During this test after injecting insulin, frequent blood samples are taken. More accurate results for human growth hormone deficiency is obtained from growth hormone stimulation test. The normal level of human growth hormone is 10 ng/ml. A less level of human growth hormone shows pituitary deficiency.

Growth hormone suppression test is used to evaluate the excess baseline level of human growth hormone. It is also known as glucose loading test.. During the test two different blood samples are taken. The first sample is taken before giving glucose injection and after two hours the second sample is taken. The human growth hormone level depends on the glucose loading. 3 ng/ml is the normal level for suppressed human growth hormone. When suppressed base human growth hormone level is 5 ng/ml, it shows acromegaly syndrome
